“The best thing about a picture is that it never changes, even when the people in it do.”
When we produced our first calendar in 2001, I never imagined how popular they would become. People look forward to receiving them. They even collect them…and that’s especially gratifying to me, because I do all the photography.
As “Mikey” from a volatile neighborhood where young men flaunted big cars, big pinky rings and big wads of money, you can imagine how being a designer, or artist, went over; but I came from an artistic family. My grandmother made her own pizza and my truly gifted mother wrote poems and painted on anything that was not glued down…and that made all the difference in how I view life.
Whether it’s 2007’s gritty look at the Dominican Republic, the streets of Paris in 2009 or 2017’s take on German architecture, I’m a New Yorker who sees the world through a lens created by the people and the City that influenced me the most.
You get the picture.
